WHO IS THE KING OF THE RAP
Marshall Bruce Mathers III alias Eminem ou Slim Shady est un musicien, producteur de rap et acteur américain né le 17 octobre 1972 à Kansas City, Missouri. Ayant vendu plus de 80 millions d'albums dans le monde, il est le premier rappeur à avoir remporté un Academy Award (Oscar) en 2003, pour une chanson du film 8 Mile (voir ci-après). Durant sa carrière, il a été aussi bien couvert d'éloges que controversé.
Eminem est qualifié, autant par la critique musicale que par la communauté rap comme un rappeur hors pair. Il se distingue notamment pour son maniement habile de l'allitération, de l'assonance ou des jeux de mots[8]. Le poète Seamus Heaney mettra aussi l'accent sur son « énergie verbale » D'autre part, ses qualités de parolier lui donneront droit à la récompense du Best Lyricist Of the Year au Source Awards en 2000
Il est controversé pour certaines de ses chansons. Avec l'énorme succès critique et publique de son album The Marshall Mathers LP sorti en mai 2000 et sa nomination pour quatre Grammy Awards, dont l' « album de l'année », des associations comme le GLAAD ont dénoncé certains de ses textes les jugeant homophobes, tandis que d'autres dénoncent la violence extrême de certains titres.
Bien qu'Eminem ne se considère pas comme un artiste engagé politiquement dans ses chansons, en 2004 et avant l'élection présidentielle, il sort la chanson Mosh, brûlot anti-Bush qui dénonce aussi la décision de ce dernier de mener la guerre en Irak
